Learn HERstory - Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005) was an American activist in the civil rights movement.
Ms. Parks is best remembered for her pivotal role in the 1955-56 Montgomery Bus Boycott. She chose not to give up her seat to a white man when public transportation was racially segregated by law. When she did that she became the symbol of the fight against racial injustice. The United States Congress honored her as "the First Lady of Civil Rights".
