Learn HERstory - Coretta Scott-King, (April 27, 1927 – January 30, 2006), was a civil rights activist and wife of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.
Ms. King served as an advocate for African-American equality as a leader for the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Ms. King was also a singer who often incorporated music into her civil rights work. She studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. It was while studying singing at that school that she met her future husband, Martin Luther King Jr.
